Overview
St. Aemilian-Lakeside's Day Treatment School is a full-day
academic program for boys and girls age 5-17 with emotional and behavioral
challenges. The school combines academics and therapeutic services
to give its students the skills and knowledge they need to integrate
back into their community school ready for success.
St. Aemilian-Lakeside's Day Treatment School features:
- Full-day program that combines academic achievement and therapeutic services (The program runs from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during the school year. A half-day program is offered during the summer)
- Small classrooms (average 12 students per classroom) allows for individual attention
- Each classroom is staffed with a certified special education teacher and a para educator
- Therapeutic staff includes MSW school social workers
- Integrated curriculum emphasizes activity-based learning and closing the achievement gap
- St. Aemilian-Lakeside will assist in arranging transportation and will monitor transportation on a daily basis
- A full and nutritious breakfast and lunch is provided to all Day Treatment students
- St. Aemilian-Lakeside staff work intensively with students to meet IEP and treatment goals
Family Involvement
Day Treatment School staff places a high priority on family involvement in their child's education and therapy. Family members participate in the Initial Family Meeting to review the individual education plan for each child. In addition, family members attend parent-teacher conferences and treatment team meetings. Social and volunteer opportunities are available as well.
Teachers and other day treatment staff contact parents on a weekly basis to keep them abreast of progress. Day Treatment School students bring home a daily progress report for parents to review and sign. This ensures ongoing communication throughout the enrollment period.

Enrollment
Generally, students are referred to the Day Treatment School by school
districts, Wraparound Milwaukee, the court system, the Bureau of Milwaukee
Child Welfare, or other social service agencies.
An Initial Family Meeting offers parents, school district staff and/or
the referring case manager the opportunity to review program expectations
and complete all necessary forms. At this meeting, an Individual Education
Plan is reviewed, and the child's academic and therapeutic needs
will be discussed to ensure there is a good fit between the student's
needs and St. Aemilian-Lakeside's services.
