"It was nice to do things for other people
instead of just myself. I didn't have a lot
of chances to do that before."

The Day Treatment School believes in engaging its students
in the community through active participation in service learning
projects. Service learning combines classroom lessons with meaningful
volunteer work in the community. Projects range from nursing home
visits to neighborhood beautification and nationally recognized service projects.
Intergenerational Service at St. Ann's Home for the Elderly:
The 2005-2006 school year included an invitation from St. Anne's, for 2 groups of students to do service at St. Anne's, rather than just one. We were very excited to be growing and allowing more students to participate in this wonderful therapeutic opportunity. It is our 5th year of collaborative service.
Our students continue to be paired with one older resident of St. Anne's in a partnered activity. They make a special friend and continue to do a monthly project with the same resident. Spring. The friendships that blossom are wonderful.
